This table is just a try at recovering every constellation of the LITTLE RIVER BAND. As I said on the History page, lineup stability was never LITTLE RIVER BAND strong suit. But, it is obvious to me that there have been some main characters within the group's career. Obviously, the two lead singers played a very important role, for GLENN SHORROCK, as well as JOHN FARNHAM had a great impact on the aura of the group at each level of their career. Until early 2000 the former lead singer of the GRAEHAM GOBLE project, STEVE WADE was the group's main vocalist [since 1996] of the band. As I haven't heard him singing with them, I can't tell what he's like with the group. But, WE wish him all the best with LITTLE RIVER BAND. There has also always been some influence by the lead guitarists. At first RICK FORMOSA, after that DAVID BRIGGS and, since 1982, STEPHEN HOUSDEN, who is currently also leading and managing the band. But in my mind, the most important roles in their earlier days were the 'men in the back', GRAEHAM GOBLE and BEEB BIRTLES. These two developed the worldwide known close harmony sound of the group. These two were responsible for many of the hit material, such as It's A Long Way There, Reminiscing, The Night Owls, The Other Guy and so on. It also seems to me that there must have been many conflicts between the members at every level and every time. I know of a story that GRAEHAM GOBLE told in some interview. GRAEHAM is known to believe in the power of letters, words and names and their effect to particular things or people. I think this science is called 'numerology'. So, it became a conflict between GOBLE and SHORROCK about of line of the song Man On Your Mind which reads "... you can't change your life by changing your name ...". This shows that GOBLE is attentive to sensitive and probably mythical things happening in our world, such as reincarnation, as well. I assume that GLENN SHORROCK - as the lead singer - is more focussed on public recognition of his musicianship and entertainment and enjoys the happy side of the music business. On the other hand, GLENN confirmed to be a performer of transcendental meditation since 1967, so ... There also must have been some conflicts that resulted in the departure of David Briggs after the recording of the "Time Exposure" album. But, on the other hand, as you may have read on the Discography pages, band constellations still work together with former members of the band, such as the two first bass players ... Hard to tell what happened within the band, but it would be very interesting to know! |

I have no idea why Roger McLachlan left the group at that early and successful stage. Being a bass player myself I regard him as a fantastic musician. I can only guess he was not willing to be on the road that much like Little River Band had to be at that time. Derek Pellicci had confirmed that Roger had left the band at 'mutual decision'. Roger McLachlan is now regarded as one of Australia's foremost session musicians, and has played for many international stars. Roger played the fretless bass on the John Farnham track You're The Voice. |

Beeb Birtles has confirmed about George McArdle leaving the group : "The story about George is that he was becoming very unhappy touring with the band and it seemed to Graham and I that he was really searching spiritually. So on his birthday we bought him a Bible to read. Shortly after that he left the band and joined a church and gave all of his possessions away. Then he took a 3 year Bible study course somewhere in the Blue Mountains which is on the east coast of Australia. He is still very involved with church life and currently lives in Brisbane, Queensland." |

Returning from touring all over the world the band was looking for a steady member on the bass, thus found Wayne Nelson, formerly of the JIM MESSINA BAND. |

Personal differences resulted in the departure of David Briggs. This has happened by the end of the "Time Exposure" sessions. I heard the group was complaining because David had become over confident, but the way he was asked to leave the group was not pleasant, too. As you can see in the picture below, Shorrock was to leave the band some time later, deciding to go solo again. This line up was filmed on the only official video of Little River Band available, called "Live Exposure" (also vailable as Laser Disc). It was their manager, Glenn Wheatley, who suggested to ask John Farnham to join the group, before they finally were to disband. |
| Little River Band #7 | 1982 |
drums - Derek Pellicci
bass, backing vocals - Wayne Nelson lead guitars - Stephen Housden guitars, backing vocals - Graham Goble guitars, backing vocals - Beeb Birtles lead vocals - John Farnham |

In 1983 Derek Pellicci and Beeb Birtles were getting unhappy about the band's direction, particularly the spiritual one (Beeb is an active Christian and talked about how Goble, "being the manipulative person that he is" had surrounded himself with people like Housden and Nelson who also believed in things like numerology, clearvoyance and reincarnation and stuff). Read about what Derek says about that time on the page of his web interview. Derek was replaced by COLD CHISEL drummer Steven Prestwich. |
| Little River Band #9 | 1983 - 1987 |
drums - Steven Prestwich
bass, backing vocals - Wayne Nelson lead guitars - Stephen Housden guitars, backing vocals - Graham Goble keyboards - David Hirschfelder lead vocals - John Farnham |
|
Being frustrated by the lack of success on both sides, Farnham and Shorrock changed the scene ... while Farnham was trying to go solo again and hence earned awards with Australia's best selling record ever, "Whiserping Jack", Shorrock came back to re- join the band and gain past successes. At the same time founder member Derek Pellicci also returned and joined the group for a come back. |
| Little River Band #10 | 1988 - 1990 |
drums - Derek Pellicci
bass, backing vocals - Wayne Nelson lead guitars - Stephen Housden guitars, backing vocals - Graham Goble lead vocals - Glenn Shorrock |
|
Having been the fighter for the band's popularity in the past years Graham Goble left after the release of the "Get Lucky" album. I guess he has been frustrated that the band was unsuccessful, even with the popular and award-winning and Brisbane-born songwriter champ Mike Chapman (who composed If I Get Lucky), who had already worked and produced with the likes of SUZIE QUATRO, EXILE, SWEET, MUD and many others. |
| Little River Band #11 | 1990 - 1996 |
drums - Derek Pellicci
bass, backing vocals - Wayne Nelson lead guitars - Stephen Housden keyboards, guitars, backing vocals - Tony Scuito (repleaced for the 1992 U.S. tour by Richard Bryant) guitars, backing vocals - Peter Beckett lead vocals - Glenn Shorrock |

|
Having had the chance to talk to Derek Pellicci Easter 1997 he confirmed that Shorrock and Nelson had left the band in early 1996. I don't know about the exact reasons, but I've heard of a law suit Shorrock vs. the band. Bad suff ! Derek had also confirmed that Tony Sciuto has been a steady member of the band since 1990, but for some reason Tony had not been mentioned on any album he played on as a full time member of Little River Band, except for the Worldwide Love release. |

| Little River Band #12 | 1996 - 1997 |

In late 1999 Steve Wade decided to terminate his Little River Band membership and pursue a solo career. PAUL GILDEA also left LRB and was replaced by GREG HINT. The band decided that WAYNE NELSON take over the lead vocal parts. |
