Waking from tormented sleep,
drowning in your own tears,
you don't have nerves of steel,
to overcome these fears.

You give your heart, you give your soul,
but what does it all mean?
They don't want love, they want control
to take away your dream.

So you try to surrender,
and your heart makes you blind,
you're looking for open arms,
still they come from behind ...

Oh, you try so hard to give it all,
you hope the flame still burns,
but darkness comes and tears will fall,
some people never learn.

Only love can make love,
and how's this wearin' thin,
you keep on building bridges,
then they knock them down again.

they never reach that distance,
