Martinique ========== by John Boylan Meggie Malone, I'll take my pen in hand, I'm writing from so far away I'm here in this strange carribean land, and I can tell you what happened that day. Oh Maggie, they knew we were comin', I don't think we had a chance, but your brother, Shamus and I got away, and we're hiding here in Fort Diffrence (?). So Maggie, come on down to Martinique, get on a plane, don't you tell anyone, forget about the war and the box sized streets, come on down, lie in the sun. We came in to Darey on a friday night, hit out in Brandy Well Row, the morning came in with a green grey light, and the mist that turned everything cold, suddenly soldier where everywhere, the voice of their guns was so loud, oh, Shamus got hit as he ran for the stairs, through the dust and the smoke we got out. So Maggie, come on down to Martinique, get on a plane, don't you tell anyone, forget about the war and the box sized streets, come on down, lie in the sun. Maybe we could sail off to Mexico, follow the waves and the wind, those feelings we had not so long ago, do you think we would feel 'em again ? We made it to Paris, then we flew down here Shamus was hurtin' inside, we did all we could and the padre was there, as we passed on to the other side ... Oh Maggie, I've headed with fightin' now, but losing the friends that I've known, I've headed with all of the things we must do like the morning of Shamus Malone. So Maggie, come on down to Martinique, get on a plane, don't you tell anyone, forget about the war and the box sized streets, come on down, lie in the sun. Come on down, come on down, Maggie, come on down to Martinique ... Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, come on down ...
